Kubrick's Napoleon

While in Portland over the weekend, I stumbled across Taschen's recently released "Stanley Kubrick's Napoleon: the Greatest Movie Never Made," and I must truly admit that it's a fascinating (and oddly celebratory) work of coffee-table wizardry about Kubrick's sweeing epic that never was. The massive volume contains thousands of photographs, notes, letters, treatments, essays and a facsimile of Kubrick's final screenplay. Coffee-tables everywhere just got a little happier.

Sure Schott

While there are many imitators of the iconic motorcycle jacket, few compare to the authenticity and sheer rebelliousness of Schott NYC. While they can take credit for developing the first motorcycle jacket back in 1928, it might be their regular appearances on the likes of Brando and Dean that launched this all-American manufacturer into another gear. In keeping with their well-maintained traditions, Schott C.O.O. Jason Schott (great-grandson of company founder Irving Schott) has teamed up with Barneys to launch a capsule collection of four leather jackets that have been washed and treated to make it look as if you've had it for decades.

Rules for My Unborn Son

With attention spans getting shorter and the art of the gentleman fading to obscurity, my excitement over Walter Lamond's new book "Rules for My Unborn Son" should come as no surprise. This little gem of life "rules" is a pocket-packed treasure for both boys and girls, passing along quips of advise that are both humorous and compelling...and most importantly, they're lessons we should all have memorized. Lamond sums it up as follows: Boys need rules. One man's instructions for raising a thoughtful, adventurous, honest, hard-working, self-reliant, well-dressed, well-read, well-mannered young gentleman.

Here are a few of my favorites from his fantastic blog:

411. At the ballpark, never start a wave. But don't let it die.

401. You can do your homework after you finish playing outside.

393. Never eat lunch at your desk.

390. Eat lunch with the new kid.

378. It's not a gang without the cool girl.

369. You don't get to choose your own nickname.

358. If you have to make more than one substitution, order something else.

331. Be subtle. She sees you.

Roden Gray Launches INVENTORY

The Canadian dandies at Roden Gray have officially launched their first issue of INVENTORY, and I must say I'm quite impressed with the content. Along with the magazine, INVENTORY also features a great online shop with unique pieces from such names as Alexander Olch, Common Projects and Nom de Guerre. According to Creative Director Ryan Willms, the concept of INVENTORY explores "various niches in menswear to create our own unique aesthetic. We focus on the brands and people, big or small, that have stories we want to tell and might otherwise go unnoticed." And in keeping with this mindset, I highly recommend you watch their video below on Victoria, B.C.-based Viberg Boots...and maybe get a pair for yourself.
