Pitti Party

The crew over at FrenchTrotters recently dropped this number on us, and from the looks of things Pitti Uomo, once again, didn't disappoint. Granted, I've had it up to here with the Phoenix soundtracks littering the cyber-shpere, but luckily the looks from Gitman Vintage, Band of Outsiders, Mark McNairy, Engineered Garments and Alden (along with the impeccably tailored spectators) make up for it...I guess.

Monday Musique: Mattson 2

The brothers Mattson just washed ashore their latest album Feeling Hands (Galaxia), and the newest video for "Pleasure Point" is nothing short of summer perfection. One part salty breeze, a couple shakes of jazzy smoke and a float of California cool. This is a cocktail of sound that comes well chilled.

Throw Me A Pettibon

Few things get the canvas of summer ready like the work of Raymond Pettibon. On the surface his work appears a comical mess, but closer inspection reveals a darker, more cerebral message of pop slashes, punk waves and LA grit. Whether it's the sun and surf or a policeman with a gun in his mouth, Pettibon's work is a pile-driver into the land of long days and balmy nights. See the full collection of his most recent work here.

The List of Lists

Ah yes, the list. Few items strike such polarizing fear and inspiration, providing a brief - but hugely informative - look into one's life, surroundings and eating habits. An everyday activity that carries with it the momentous check marks of accomplishment and the impossible failure of never actually completing all the tasks. It's an expression of our everyday, bringing cultural giants to eye-level with spelling mistakes (Picasso), groceries and alcoholism (Kline), all garnished with the sweet swirls of cut-and-paste OCD (Janice Lowry). And even more interesting might be the idea of making this little list of lists, which is so mind-bendingly meta that I may just have to go write down the reasons for doing so.

UFO Sighting

Few things compare to the sweet sensations of warp speed, weightlessness and endless Blade Runner references. Leave it to Citroën to bring our intergalactic imaginations to life with their recently unveiled spaceship for the Milan furniture fair. Designed by Ora-Ïto, this fantastic piece of space machinery takes a page from the the Citroën DS, giving space travel a whole new level of sex appeal and providing a welcome reprieve from our critically-amassed vintage Americana. (It also provides the perfect excuse to play the Tron soundtrack while scrolling over the images). Not exactly sure where this would go in the house or loft, but my god, if there was ever an excuse to move that Star Trek bean bag, this, my friends, is it.

In Focus: Oliver Spencer

Spoiler alert: I'm a huge fan of Oliver Spencer. And what better way to start the all-American weekend then with a little made-in-England flare? If you're in London or New York over the weekend, I highly recommend you pay his shops a visit and witness the magic for yourself. Forward designs, subtle flare, and a finely crafted brogue firmly planted in the past. And if that's not "memorial" enough for you, I don't know what is.
