The recent passing of Ernie Harwell has brought to mind the many sounds and smells of summers past, nostalgic road trips across Michigan, and my brother and I competing for who could do the best impression of Harwell's signature "Looong Gone!" home run call. His breezy Southern drawl made listening to the Detroit Tigers a summer pleasure, with just enough ease and comfort to make us all feel a Tiger victory was nothing but inevitable.
